BMW is a globally-oriented
automobile maker with a solid reputation and achievements on the international
scale. The company is permanently advancing its automobile series distributed throughout
the company’s global chain.
Since 1962, the company has
been advancing its New Class series of automobiles including compact coupes and
sedans. The models of the New Class series are featured by a fully independent
suspension and are powered by BMW famous four-cylinder M10.
The models of the class are also equipped with front disc brakes and MacPherson
struts in front.
Owing to the sporty siblings,
BMW has won an international popularity and has been recognized as an international
brand. Later, as an upper tier performance car maker, BMW launched popular 3
Series. In 1972, BMW 5 Series was
launched to substitute four-doors with numbers ending in ‘0’. In 1969, the
upscale 2000C and 2000CS coupes were substituted by the six-cylinder
BMW E9. In 1975, the production of 1600 two-door ceased, and in 1975 320i replaced
the 2002 (Kiley, 2004).
In 2004, the company introduced
the 1 Series, which is BMW’s smallest car. Now, first generation
coupe/convertible (E82/E88) and the second generation hatchback (F20) are
available on the international markets. A compact executive car (3 Series) that
has been manufactured since 1975 is now in its 6th generation known as F30. The
models of the popular series include 5th generation station wagon (E91), sport
sedan (F30), coupe (E92), and convertible (E93). As a mid-size executive car,
the 5 Series is available in station wagon (F11) and sedan (F10) forms. Debuted
in 2010, the 5 Series Gran Turismo (F07) established an individual segment
between crossover SUV and station wagons (BMW, 2012).
BMW 7-Series (F01) mark BMW’s full-size
executive sedan. The BMW 7 Series is featured by
innovations, including iDrive system. The 7 Series Hydrogen emits clean water
vapor and is fueled by liquid hydrogen (BMW, 2012).
In 2009, the company launched
the latest generation of automobiles (F01) on the basis of 5 Series platform
(BMW, 2012).
Finally, the BMW sports activity
series model lineup includes: 1 Series (F20) hatchback available since 2011; Coupe
and convertible 1 Series (E81) available since 2004; 3 Series (F30) sedan
available since 2012; 3 Series (E90) convertible and wagon coupe available
since 2005; 5 Series (F10) sedan and wagon available since 2010; 5 Series progressive
activity sedan Gran Turismo available since 2009; 6 Series (F12) coupe and
convertible available since 2010; 7 Series (F01) sedan available since 2008; X1 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Compact
Crossover SUV available since 2009; X3 (F25) Compact Crossover SUV/Sports
Activity Vehicle (SAV) available since 2010; X5 (E70) Compact Crossover
SUV/Sports Activity Vehicle available
since 2006; X6 Sports Activity Coupe available since 2008; and Z4 (E89) Sports
Roadster available since 2009 (BMW, 2012).
